The role of the Assistant/Associate Professor requires teaching, coordination, and curriculum development at the graduate and undergraduate levels in core courses, seminars, and electives in this specialization and with the preferred ability to teach design studios. Candidates must demonstrate scholarly promise, a passion for teaching, and expertise in global architectural history. The search committee strongly encourages candidates with primary or secondary expertise in the history and theory of underrepresented geographical regions (e.g., Latin America, Africa, South Asia, or the Middle East) to apply.
The search committee is seeking a dynamic scholar and colleague who can closely interact with specialists in the school’s other fields and inspire the SoAD community with critical and innovative perspectives. The committee will favorably consider a candidate’s ability to teach design studios and collaborate with design studio faculty and experts in digital fabrication and contemporary design theory. We welcome applicants who can contribute to the integration of history and theory with the design studio and the development of innovative pedagogical models that facilitate the pursuit of new knowledge at the New York Tech School of Architecture and Design.
The ideal candidate will show evidence of dedication and excellence in the areas of teaching, research, and service. They will be expected to contribute to the school’s curricula development, program accreditations, student mentoring and advising, retention, and recruitment initiatives, as well as service activities related to the community, the SoAD, and New York Tech. Applicants should demonstrate an evolving research agenda, one that articulates future aspirations supported by publications and internal and external funding. The SoAD expects new faculty to have an active role in developing cross-disciplinary research projects that lead to the expansion of collaborations and partnerships with other universities, with the profession and the industry, nationally and internationally, contributing to New York Tech’s excellence and the enhancement of its reputation.
